3rd Water

Episode 3.10 - Search For Campion - Axed Scene

Disclaimers:

The Watership Down series belongs to Alltime and Decode Entertainment. The original characters were the work of Richard Adams, however, many of the characters in the series were changed, and these belong to Alltime/Decode. I am just borrowing the characters for this fansite, and I mean no-one any harm by this. This is supposed to a be virtual third series, and is in no way supposed to detract from the official third series. When I originally planned out my third series, I never knew of the existance of the official third series. As it has never, and doesn't look as though it ever will be, aired in the UK, I decided to write an alternative series, continuing on from where series 2 (The Homecoming) left off. I am in no way connected with any of the companies mentioned above.

All characters are completely fictitious and any resemblance to any persons either living or dead is purely coincidental. If anyone has any problems with this episode, they are advised to contact the webmaster on [email protected].

Writer's notes:

This scene was in the original plans for the episode, but was never actually wrote in, as I decided things were long enough already. Anyway, I present it now.

In the episode, the scene comes as Hazel, Fiver and Pimpernel have almost reached the Efrafan end of the tunnel in their search. Pimpernel had just moved away. This scene was meant to come just before Fiver has his 'Flower of Spring' vision, and includes both Primpernel being stranded by a collapsing section of the cavern, and one of those discussions between Hazel and Fiver.

Back with Hazel's team

Hazel, Fiver and Pimpernel had started to work backwards from the blocked back burrow, hoping to find some clue, however nothing materialised. By now they were near to the Efrafan end of the caverns.

"Still no sign?", asked Hazel

"Nothing.", replied Pimpernel

"But it's so wet down here, that any tracks would be near impossible to find.", he continued

"Well, keep looking.", continued Hazel

"But dont stray to far. We dont want to become seperated down here.", shouted Hazel, as Pimpernel moved to investigate further

....

Fiver sighed

"What is it?", asked Hazel

"Looks like I've wasted everyone's time again.", sighed Fiver, as Pimpernel hopped across to a small alcove, from which a tributary fed the main stream

"Hey, you haven't wasted anyone's time. If there was even the remotest chance of finding Campion down here, we had to take it. Besides, knowing you, you're vision will probably be proven right again. Perhaps its not meant to be today, but some day soon.", replied Hazel

"Just try not to give us any new visions for a while, will you. Let's work this one out first.", he joked

"I'll try not to.", smiled Fiver

"Shhh....", interrupted Hazel suddenly

Fiver fell silent, as Hazel listened. There was a low creaking noise coming from above

"Look out!", he shouted, as a large section of the cavern ceiling collapsed. Hazel leapt out of the way, pushing Fiver with him

"Pimpernel!", Fiver shouted, trying to see through the clouds of dust

"Oh Frith no!", continued Hazel

The two of them ran forward to where a large rock lay

"Pimpernel. Are you there?", shouted Hazel, as the dust cleared

They paused, but there was no reply

"No. Surely not again...", continued Fiver

Hazel sighed miserably, before beginning to speak

"My heart has joined the thou...", he started, before being interrupted

"Hazel!!", choked Pimpernel, from nearby

"Pimpernel! Where are you?", shouted Hazel

There was a pause before Pimpernel replied

"It's some sort of alcove. The rocks are blocking the way out.", replied Pimpernel

Hazel groaned as he tried in vain to move one of the rocks

"It's no use. I dont even think Bigwig could move some of this.", he panted

"Perhaps if everyone helps, we could move them. I'll see if I can find them.", pointed out Fiver, beginning to move

"Wait!", interrupted Hazel

"What is it?", asked Fiver

"That water. It's still flowing into the stream. That must mean the way's not completely blocked.", pointed out Hazel

"I do believe you're right.", replied Fiver

"Pimpernel. Listen to me. The water is still flowing out. Is there any way you can dive under the water to escape?", asked Hazel

Hazel waited, but there was no reply

"Pimpernel?", he continued, before he was interrupted by Pimpernel splashing back to the surface

"That was a close one.", he spluttered, climbing out of the stream to rejoin Hazel

Hazel turned to look at the pile of collapsed rocks.

"I hope this place isn't becoming unstable. It could collapse the entire warren one day.", he sighed

"I doubt it. Frith told Fiver this place would be safe. I see no reason for that to change ever.", replied Pimpernel

Hazel paused, then nodded in agreement

"I suppose you're probably right.", he replied

....

He turned back to Fiver, to notice a familiar glazed expression on his face.

"Ohhhhh!", groaned Fiver, the noise echoing round the caverns

"What is it? What can you see?", shouted Hazel

"The evil overshadows the world so bleak, The Flower of Spring grows ever weak.", groaned Fiver before collapsing to the ground
